When two or more translators work on the same text or on different texts translated for the same company, the result immediately shows if they worked together or separately. If the translators can talk to each other while translating or read each other’s screen, they provide excellent quality work. If they can’t be in touch, chances are that the consistency of the text is broken, thus the quality is low.
A memoQ server allows translators to work together, to share every single sentence translated, every single term suggested in real time. Traditional technologies like word processors operate on the document level, making it harder for translators to exchange their work. memoQ server technology operates on the sentence/segment level, and every sentence translated is instantly visible, searchable, and automatically retrievable for the other translators.
memoQ was a collaborative technology from the very beginning and builds extensively on the research of Kilgray’s founders. memoQ’s first version already had a server component that enabled the creation of server projects - centrally set up projects which require no configuration from translators. Version 2.0 introduced communication and instant messaging, the offline synchronization of resources and the moderation of terminology into the translation environment. This was back in 2006 - and still no competitor offers these exquisite features.
Version 3.0 was the first commercially available tool to introduce the online document storage, a way of cooperative editing. With online document storage, translators and reviewers can work on the same document at the same time, and project managers have access to real-time progress reports. Version 4.0 introduced the concept of Post Translation Analysis™, the first solution to address the financial issues of collaborative translation and offer a fair basis for paying the translators’ work. Version 4.0 was also the first tool to introduce the concept of the Translation Resource Server™. The Translation Resource Server does not only allow you to store translation memories, term bases and documents online - it allows you to store 12 types of resources online, and provide the most sophisticated remote configuration ever seen in a translation tool. Version 4.2 introduced extensive e-mail notifications, and version 4.5 offered a new resource, corpora, that enables on-the-fly alignment in both off- and online projects. The same version enabled collaborative document editing without having to be continually online. When it comes to collaborative technology, a memoQ server is unparalleled in functionality and performance and offers the best value for money. Deploying and managing a memoQ server is so easy that you don’t need IT staff to do that. This is why it is the number one server-based translation environment among language service providers. It even runs on Windows XP, without having to license anything else.
memoQ server packages also provide added value to your offline workflows through the project management functionality. A memoQ server can also function as an enterprise licensing server. Using ELM (mobile) licenses, companies can have a number of licenses that they can give away to named users and revoke at any point. The licenses don’t necessarily need to be assigned explicitly: you can also give permission to users to take the licenses and return them later. memoQ server packages have no limitation on the number of maximum translation units or the number of concurrent users. Your users can connect to your server if they have a translator pro license or if they have a 4free license and you give them one of your mobile licenses temporarily. You can deploy a memoQ server without having to ask for an investment from your translators.
The memoQ server is available in two editions, the serverFive edition and the enterprise edition.
A serverFive edition consists of one memoQ server and five mobile licenses (by default two project manager and three translator licenses). Additional bundles of five licenses are available for purchase.
The enterprise edition includes memoQ’s fully documented software development kit (Web Service API) on top of serverFive and allows the integration of memoQ with custom-made and commercially available project management, content management and other tools.
