GlobalDenmark – a Danish translations and communications company - is organising two-day memoQ 5.0 courses on 22-23 March, 2012.

In the pleasant and cosy surroundings of GlobalDenmark, Lone Beheshty and Anette Jakobsen (translators and certified trainers) will together ensure that you have a most enjoyable and successful day with plenty of hands-on exercises.

Course structure and target group

The course has two levels.

The first course day is Level 1 and is aimed at translators and other linguists regardless of prior knowledge of translation environment tools who want a hands-on introduction to memoQ. However, Level 1 is also for participants who have used other tools and are considering a switch to memoQ.

Level 2 builds on Level 1 and is aimed at anyone who has participated in Level 1 as well as anyone with prior experience with memoQ. At Level 2 you will be introduced to memoQ’s more advanced functionalities, including project management.

We will adjust the course to the needs of the participants, and therefore, we will send out a questionnaire before the course to establish participants’ prior knowledge and needs.

 

Training program

Level 1 Outline - 22 March 2012

Part 1: How to get started with memoQ

  • Creating a project: adding multiple files, translation memories (TMs), and termbases (TBs)
  • Viewing the analysis results to establish possible leverage from your TMs
  • Translating the project files in the editor
  • Tag handling
  • Manual and automatic concordance searches: subsegment leverage
  • Adding terms to the termbase(s)
  • Spell checking
  • Proofreading
  • Use track changes in Word, then reimport and let memoQ update your project automatically
  • Finalising your project: exporting your translated documents into their original format


Part 2: Increase your productivity & quality

  • Working with Views (splitting and merging files)
  • Pre-translate vs X-translate
  • Configuring settings and resources
  • Quality Assurance check (QA)
  • Non-translatable lists, and Ignore lists

Part 3: Preparations prior to translation

  • LiveDocs – Alignment: creating TMs from past translations
  • Converting Excel glossaries for creating termbases in memoQ
  • Q&A session

Level 2 Outline - 23 March 2012

Part 1: Increase your productivity & quality

  • Pre-translate vs X-translate
  • Translation memory fields: adding metadata to your TMs
  • Configuring settings and resources
  • Auto-translation rules: conversion of measurements, etc.
  • Quality Assurance check (QA)
  • Interoperability – Bilingual files: .doc, .rtf, .ttx, .xliff, .sdlxliff
  • Integration of machine translation

Part 2: Advanced functionality & project management

  • Handling of different file formats: Excel, XML, InDesign
  • Cascading file filters: learn to handle files with mixed content from different file formats
  • Workflows for offline projects (handoff & handback packages)
  • Versioning: keeping an audit trail of a document’s versions
  • Workflows for server projects (with offline or online documents/resources)


Part 3: Pre-production & maintenance

  • LiveDocs - Alignment: creating TMs from legacy translations
  • Term extraction: creating a termbase prior to starting the project
  • Translation memory & termbase maintenance (export, import, interoperability)
  • Q&A session

Course trainers

Lone Beheshty BSc, MITI is a translator and owner of Dania Translations based in Manchester, UK as well as a certified trainer of memoQ 5.0, Trados 2007, 2009 and 2011. Lone has 14 years’ experience as a TEnT trainer.

Anette Jakobsen is an English certified translator and consultant at GlobalDenmark at Frederiksberg, Denmark, as well as a certified memoQ trainer. In addition to translation work, Anette is also responsible for the preparation of workflows and project management, day-to-day maintenance of memoQ as well as teaching memoQ at internal level.

  • Price: DKK 3,100 (+ VAT) for both course days.
              DKK 2,500 (+VAT) for 1 course day.

Please bring your own laptop with the software installed, or borrow one from GlobalDenmark. You can download a free trial version of memoQ 5.0 from Kilgray’s website. As part of a partnership agreement with Kilgray you will get a 20% discount on memoQ if you participate in the course and buy memoQ before the expiry of the trial version.
